Repair work to be carried out on historic city bridge

Aberdeen’s historic Victoria Bridge will close tomorrow (October 8) to allow essential repairs to be carried out.

The bridge, which was completed in 1877, will close at 5am tomorrow for £50,000 of essential work to the carriageway.

The bridge will be closed to all traffic from its junction with Market Street and North Esplanade East to Victoria Road’s junction with South Esplanade East.

The work has been timed to coincide with the October school holidays when the roads are traditionally at their quietest and will focus on repairing granite sets in keeping with the historic bridge’s carriageway.

During the work North Esplanade East will be restricted to one-way traffic heading eastbound from its junction with Market Street.

The work is scheduled to last until 5am on 17 October but it is hoped it may be completed ahead of schedule.

For the duration of the work an alternative route will be available for southbound traffic via North Esplanade West, Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, Craiginches Roundabout, South Esplanade West.

Northbound traffic will be diverted via Menzies Road, Craig Place, Craiginches Roundabout, Queen Elizabeth II Bridge and North Esplanade West.
