RGU students selected to organise Young Enterprise finalsStudents from Robert Gordon University (RGU) have been selected by Young Enterprise Grampian to organise the regional Young Enterprise finals which will take place next year (2012). Emma Grant (18), Abbi Aitken (20) and Kirsty Liebnitz (19), first and second year Events Management Students from RGU’s Aberdeen Business School, have secured paid placements with Young Enterprise Grampian and given the task of organising the programme’s annual finals, which will represent the culmination of a year's hard work by school children across the region. The three students will spend the year working part time with mentors from Young Enterprise to deliver the high profile event which will feature Levi Roots, founder of Reggae Reggae Sauce and Dragon's Den entrepreneur, as guest speaker. Ian Phillips, Chair, Young Enterprise Grampian, said, “Young Enterprise prides itself on developing business skills and entrepreneurial spirit in young people. To give RGU students such an important role in one of the key events in our calendar is testament to both their outstanding ability and our belief in supporting students of all ages to achieve their full potential.” The students successfully secured the positions as part of RGU’s Industry Experience Portfolio, an innovative approach to work experience developed for the BA (Hons) Event Management degree course, requiring students to complete a minimum of 100 hours of work experience in the events industry in each year of their studies. Daniel Turner, Undergraduate Programme Leader for Hospitality, Tourism, Retail and Events at Aberdeen Business School, added “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain valuable experience and play a pivotal role in a major event with such a well recognised organisation.” 137 views
