Safety improvements in line for Queen’s CrossNew approach-lane designations are to be put in place at the Queen’s Cross roundabout junction to improve safety and cut congestion on the connecting streets. The £30,000 Nestrans-funded project is being undertaken to tackle driver uncertainty, lane discipline and approach-queue lengths.
Queen’s Cross roundabout is a busy junction which links Queen’s Road with Queen’s Gardens, Fountainhall Road, Carden Place, Albyn Place and St Swithin Street.
Nestrans chair Councillor Kevin Stewart said: “Everyone should benefit from the new arrangements if all road-users stick to the lane designations and clearly signal their intentions when using the junction.
“Safety has to be a priority and I welcome the work being undertaken here which will not only improve safety, but which should also cut congestion and journey times.”
New approach signs will be erected on routes leading to the junction and lane marking arrows will be painted on the approaches to the roundabout.
Work is due to start on Saturday [13 March] when construction work for the signs will begin. The lining work is due to begin early on Sunday [14 March], weather dependent. The project will be complete by the end of the month [weather dependent]. The new lane designations will be as laid out in the following table:
