Safety specialist Survival Craft Inspectorate presented with Queen's Award

Global marine safety specialist Survival Craft Inspectorate was presented with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise recently (27th July) by the Lord-Lieutenant of Kincardineshire, Carol Kinghorn.

The prestigious Innovation award was bestowed in recognition of Survival Craft’s Safelaunch lifeboat release and retrieval system designed to offer protection against unintentional launches.

Mrs Kinghorn presented the award to Survival Craft's Managing Director Angus Campbell at the company's Findon Shore headquarters in Aberdeen. She was then given a tour of the facility, meeting members of the 96-strong workforce based there.

She was also given a preview of the next generation Safelaunch system, which will be formally launched at Offshore Europe in Aberdeen in September.

Since its launch in 2003, Safelaunch has become the preferred choice of the oil, gas and merchant shipping sectors worldwide, can be used in the most extreme marine environments, and meets or exceeds all international safety standards.

Survival Craft has more than 20 years' experience of serving the oil, gas and merchant shipping sectors, with a total global workforce of 140 and bases in Norway, Western Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, and the USA. A new base in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, was opened Q1 this year to better serve the Southern North Sea oil and gas and renewables markets.

As well as winning the Queen's Award, Survival Craft last month won the 2011 Business Over Three Years category of the Enterprise North East Grampian Awards for Business Enterprise.

Mr Campbell said: “Both the Queen's Award and the Grampian Award reflect our commitment to continually investing in new technology and building and consolidating Survival Craft as a successful business.

"It was a pleasure to meet the Lord-Lieutenant today and to be able to show her how we have further enhanced our groundbreaking Safelaunch Release Gear system."
