SCC COMMENT ON CWU POSTAL STRIKE BALLOTCommenting on the decision by members of the Communications Workers Union in the Royal Mail to vote for strike action, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said: “At a time when businesses are just beginning to see signs of optimism and are hoping to improve their results in the run up to Christmas, the decision by postal workers to vote for national strike action simply beggars belief. Scottish businesses are working doubly hard to save jobs and stay afloat in the wake of the deepest recession since the 1930s. The last thing they need is for postal workers to hinder their efforts and threaten the fragile economic recovery which we hope is underway in Scotland.
“The CWU and the Royal Mail need to get round the table right now and agree a deal to resolve this dispute before the situation goes from bad to worse. A strike will not benefit anyone and would put even more Scottish jobs in jeopardy. We need a solution now.”
