Search on for Aberdeen eco-champsThe hunt is on to find Aberdeen’s eco-champions. Entries are being invited for the 2011 Aberdeen EcoCity Awards, which aim to recognise and reward the efforts of local people, businesses, schools and organisations doing their bit to protect and improve our city’s environment.
The awards make sure local people are recognised for their contribution to green initiatives which enhance the environment and help make a difference to the quality of life in the city.
This is the fifth year for the Awards programme. Previous project finalists have highlighted the impressive range of work taking place to improve Aberdeen’s environment – from litter-picking to green space improvements, from energy efficiency to waste reduction, and from green businesses to education programmes.
This year the awards are in four categories: • schools and educational bodies • charities/community and voluntary groups • businesses • individual eco champion
The eco champion award acknowledges the dedication and hard work of citizens who have gone the extra mile to take care of Aberdeen’s environment.
Prizes of £500 are up for grabs for the winner of each category to spend on a green initiative of their choice. A special Gold Award will be presented to the best overall environmental project.
Entries will be judged by a panel of experts and the finalists invited to an awards presentation later this year. To be eligible for an award, the environmental projects need to have taken place between 01 April 2010 and 31 March 2011.
The closing date for entries is 30 September 2011. Further information and application forms are available in the Your Environment section of the Aberdeen City Council website at www.aberdeencity.gov.uk, by emailing ecocity@aberdeencity.gov.uk or by telephoning (01224) 522725. 114 views
