Series of public consultation events seek views on Aberdeenshire's Local Development Plan

A series of public consultation events are being held around Aberdeenshire to provide information and discuss the Main Issues Report of the Local Development Plan (LDP).

They will take the form of informal workshops where members of the public can learn about the process and, most importantly, how to contribute to it.

It is an important chance for interested parties and communities to shape the plan before any firm decisions have been taken.

The Main Issues Report is the main focus for engagement on the LDP and was published on May 18, beginning a 6 week consultation period.

It sets out choices for land allocations which could be used for development, as well as the policies Aberdeenshire Council could use to make decisions on applications for planning permissions.

Preparation of the LDP began last year and it is expected to be adopted in 2011.

The current stage, where input is being sought on the Main Issues Report, is the first and most important stage of consultation.

The objectives of the public consultation events are to:

• explain the purpose of the main issues report
• explore the options for development in surrounding communities
• provide clarification on any issues raised by the Main Issues Report
• provide assistance in completing response forms

Members of Aberdeenshire Council's development plan team will give presentations, answer questions and assist anyone who wants to respond to any aspect of the Main Issues Report.

All of the meetings will be chaired independently and anyone with an interest is welcome to attend.

Copies of the Main Issues Report and supporting documents have been mailed to around 320 community and industry stakeholders and have also been lodged in libraries and area offices.

The documents are also available on Aberdeenshire Council's website along with other relevant information dedicated to the consultation at: www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/ldp
