SHELL AND CENTRICA TAKE FIRST PLACE IN CANOEING CHALLENGEAdventure Aberdeen hosted the seventh event in the Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon. The Canoeing Challenge sponsored by TAQA, held at Knockburn Sports Loch on Saturday 6th August. Adventure Aberdeen, who has worked closely with the Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon 2011, is a vibrant and exciting organisation which offers a wide range of exhilarating outdoor activities. They aim to inspire and develop individuals and teams through helping them experience adventure in challenging environments. The activities they provide motivate, develop and inspire individuals whilst having a lot of fun. The training sessions at Inchgarth Reservoir in Cults, saw competitors shown the basics of canoeing and on the day were keen to show off their new skills! There was an air of excitement around the loch as teams prepared to compete against one another on a typical Scottish summer’s day! The competition was hotter than the weather as teams paddled their way around obstacles to gain points. In League 1 Shell, Halliburton, and CNR International came out on top after strong performances all day. In League 2 Centrica, Senergy and Bibby Offshore took first, second and third places respectively, after breezing through the courses, which included a relay race and a time challenge. Jono Buckland, Programme Manager at Adventure Aberdeen said: “Adventure Aberdeen are proud to have delivered another great Canoe Challenge for activitymix. It’s great to see so many companies, small and big competing on the water and having a brilliant time. All the proceeds of this event go directly back into our service to help provide more adventurous activities for schools, social work and community centres in Aberdeen.” The next Decathlon Challenge will be the Lawn Bowls Challenge which will be held at Balgownie & Kittybrewster Bowling Clubs on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September!
The competition is fiercer than ever going into the penultimate challenge next month! 127 views
