SITA UK CELEBRATES AFTER SECURING BEST GREEN COMPANIES LEAGUE POSITION

SITA UK is celebrating after it became the first recycling and resource company to be featured in the highly-respected Sunday Times Best Green Companies Top 60 League Table.

The annual Green List, which was published yesterday (Sunday 12 June), sets out to identify and celebrate the achievements of British businesses that are demonstrating the highest environmental standards including high-street names such as Marks & Spencer’s and B&Q.

SITA UK operates at a number of sites across Scotland including landfill sites near Perth and Peterhead along with waste collection services and recycling facilities across Aberdeen.

As part of the application process, SITA UK submitted environmental and performance audit data, collected by the company’s Quality and Environmental Management Systems (QEMS) team, from the last three years, including its carbon footprint as well as its electricity, gas and water consumption rates.

Among the initiatives highlighted by SITA UK to the judges which helped secure its position in the league table include its innovative solution to dealing with end-of-life-plastics, in partnership with Cynar, to produce a market grade diesel fuel, as well as the company’s green internal education programme, Greensteps.

David Palmer-Jones, Chief Executive at SITA UK, said: “We are absolutely delighted SITA UK has been included in the Sunday Times Best Green Companies League Table, which highlights the green credentials of some of the UK’s most recognised brands.

“To gain this highly-respected accreditation we have made great strengths to re-engineer our company. In doing so we are now generating more value from our customers’ waste, enabling them to reduce their environmental impact through our recycling and energy recovery activities.”
