Soup-making challenge tests pupils’ business skills

Pupils from Kincorth Academy have been taking part in an Apprentice-style project this week aimed at testing their business acumen.

The S2 pupils have been tasked with producing, marketing, advertising and promoting their own brand of soup. Their hard work will draw to a close tomorrow [24 November] when a panel of guest judges will name the winning team.

Alasdair O’Connor, principal teacher of health and wellbeing at Kincorth Academy, said: “One of the strengths of the event is that it is making a variety of cross curricular links under the wider banner of health and wellbeing, which is very much in keeping with the spirit of Curriculum for Excellence. By producing, promoting, packaging and distributing their products, while working within a strict budget, the pupils are developing some key skills which might come in useful later in life.”

The judging panel will comprise Stuart Murray, owner and chef of Prego restaurant, Julie Powell, of oil and gas company Petrofac and Roy Duncan, owner of Déjà Vu restaurant. The winning team will be treated to a three-course meal at Prego.
