Space Solutions Comes to the Aid of National Health Service

Scotland’s leading design and refurbishment specialist has completed a project with NHS Scotland to redirect more than 50 tonnes of furniture away from landfill.

Space Solutions was appointed by Scotland’s health body to remove furniture used by around 250 staff during a project that consolidated four NHS offices into one building.

During the relocation project, staff from the NHS’s former offices in Glasgow - Empire House, Clifton House, Cadogan Square and Savoy Tower - were moved to new premises in the city’s Meridian House.

However, rather than sending all the furniture to landfill following the move, Space Solutions worked with reuse and recycling specialist Recycle Scotland to ensure that it was reused through charities and other social enterprises across the Central Belt.

Ben Slater, head of relocations at Space Solutions, said: “Our tender proposal was considered to be the most favourable from both a price and environmental standpoint.

“National Services Scotland (NSS) specified that it expected 100 per cent recycling and re-distribution of furniture to charity, and through working with Recycle Scotland, we ensured that goal was reached.

“This project demonstrates our effective project management as well as the environmental and sustainability benefits of using our unique service, which gives our clients a complete package from start to finish.”

Space Solutions is Scotland’s biggest independent expert in helping businesses manage changes within the workplace. It operates UK-wide – from bases in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Livingston – to design, build, fit out, refurbish and relocate modern and productive business environments.

The firm has worked closely with Recycle Scotland on a number of successful projects in 2011, including, disposing of unwanted office furniture from RBS, NHS, and Edinburgh Napier University.
