SUMMER ARTS CARNIVAL BROCHURE LAUNCH AT ABERDEEN ARTS CENTREMONDAY (June 5) saw the launch of the 30th anniversary new-look summer carnival brochure for Aberdeen Arts Centre’s “serious fun” five week programme for 3-16 year olds during the school holidays from July 4 - August 5. To mark it’s 30th anniversary this year’s carnival is “theme filled” with Glee, The Gruffalo and Zumba all having starring roles. Tiny tots will be thrilled with an invite to The Gruffalo’s Tea Party with Barry Donaldson while six years plus will be enchanted by “Is there room on the broom for the Gruffalo too?” lead by Scotty Armstrong.
Tiny tots have choices galore – they can join in the jungle rhythms of Animal Antics or Crocodile Rock. And, if you’re a dancing diva, there’s Tiny Boppers and Cheerleading that may just take your fancy! Excitement is the name of the game.
For the over 10s, why not “Get Your Glee On” in a one week full day workshop with Scotty in week four (July 25-29) – get the chance to be part of your own Glee Club and learn songs and routines from the Hit Show. And, if you fancy a full day, full week workshop but aren’t a Glee fan, then why not join Norn’s Circus or Stage Your Own Musical with Michelle Bruce.
This year sees the addition of BigStar Zumbatonic where you can join the latest craze of zany Zumba, become the next Karate Kid in the Little Ninjas workshop for the over eights, learn drumming with Bongo Dave or join MC’s Hip Hop School for some street dance moves.
Each week ends with an action packed performance or colourful exhibition for parents, family and friends, so weekly attendance is highly recommended.
Summer Carnival workshops are priced £8.50 for a morning or afternoon session or £40 for a week of 5 morning or afternoon sessions. Week four – the full day programme – is priced £90 per person, with a supervised lunch provided. Free snacks are included for each workshop. Places are strictly limited and can be booked online NOW on www.aberdeenartscentre.org.uk Alternatively, telephone Aberdeen Arts Centre Carnival hotline on (01224) 635208.
Holiday Arts Carnivals/Festivals have been running at the Arts Centre during the summer for 30 years, offering two to five week programmes of workshops in performing arts, drama, dance, music, craft and animation. Building on the strength of the summer Carnival, Spring and Autumn Festivals were added to the Centre’s programme last year. 230 views
