SUMMER ARTS CARNIVAL LAUNCHED AT ABERDEEN ARTS CENTREMONDAY (May 23) saw the launch of online bookings for Aberdeen Arts Centre’s “serious fun” five week summer arts carnival for 3-16 year olds during the school holidays from July 4 - August 5. To mark it’s 30th anniversary and due to popular demand, this year’s Carnival sees day long workshops in week four (July 25-29). So, Glee fans – “Get Your Glee On” with Scotty Armstrong, join Norn’s Circus or Stage Your Own Musical with Michelle Bruce.
And of course there’s the energy filled Hip Hip School with MC, drumming with Bongo Dave, Bigstar Zumbatonic and the opportunity to Go Greased Lightening in the Summer Nights Singalong.
Meanwhile, tiny tots will enjoy fun filled workshops, whether they’re invited to The Gruffalo’s Tea Party, or join in the jungle rhythms of Animal Antics or Crocodile Rock. And, if you’re a dancing diva, there’s Tiny Boppers and Cheerleading that may just take your fancy! Excitement is the name of the game.
Each week ends with an action packed performance or colourful exhibition for parents, family and friends, so weekly attendance is highly recommended.
Paula Gibson, executive manager for Aberdeen Arts Centre, commented: “We’re really enthused by this year’s Carnival programme and the fact that we are offering an online booking system alongside our traditional programme brochure. The online system has already had an enormous impact on our bookings as we have taken £1,500 within 48 hours of it going live.
“Each year we look at building on the strength of the previous year’s Carnival. This year we’ve jumped on the Glee bandwagon and are very excited about offering full day workshops for Glee, Circus Skills and Musical Theatre in week four.
“Another new edition to the programme is Bigstar Zumbatonic with a heady mix of salsa and aerobics as well as The Gruffalo’s Tea Party – lead by Barry Donaldson - which is sure to be a huge hit with the little ones.
“We’re also delighted to have the multi talented Scotty Armstrong on board. Scotty comes to us straight from success in the West End and will be running a variety of workshops.
Summer Carnival workshops are priced £8.50 for a morning or afternoon session or £40 for a week of 5 morning or afternoon sessions. Week four – the full day programme – is priced £90 per person, with a supervised lunch provided. Free snacks are included for each workshop. Places are strictly limited and can be booked online NOW on www.aberdeenartscentre.org.uk Alternatively, telephone Aberdeen Arts Centre Carnival hotline on (01224) 635208.
Holiday Arts Carnivals/Festivals have been running at the Arts Centre during the summer for more than 29 years, offering two to five week programmes of workshops in performing arts, drama, dance, music, craft and animation. Building on the strength of the summer Carnival, Spring and Autumn Festivals were added to the Centre’s programme last year. 268 views
