The Working Party

A group of senior business and public sector leaders from around the North and North – east of Scotland have joined forces to use their combined power in promoting their regions.

Named “The Working Party”, the group held their first meeting in Caithness to discuss how to best promote both inbound tourism and industry. It was set up by Aberdeen Airport in conjunction with Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce and their counterparts in Caithness.

Bob Collier is the Chief Executive of the Aberdeen Chamber. He said: “The North-east region will prosper if it makes the most of the links to UK and overseas destinations which Aberdeen Airport provides. It is really important to look outward for new business. The first ‘Working Party’ event combined teams from Aberdeen and Caithness, and there are many shared opportunities in energy, both oil & gas and renewables, tourism and other sectors which offer scope to work together effectively for mutual benefit.”

Trudy Morris chief executive of Caithness Chamber of Commerce & Chair of the Wick Airport Consultative Committee said: "We were delighted to welcome delegates from the Aberdeen Working Party in a recent visit to Caithness. The Caithness delegates found the day extremely beneficial with many good contacts made. We look forward to following up on these discussions and forging some new relationships and initiatives between the two areas which in turn will hopefully increase passenger numbers."

Aberdeen Airport Managing Director Derek Provan said: “I think everyone involved with this initial meeting found it useful and engaging. It was designed as an opportunity for people to share experiences and ideas, but also to leave with some specific actions that could turn into business benefits for a wide range of industries. I am hopeful that it can generate some positive long-term discussions that will benefit the wider North and North-east of Scotland”.

The first meeting of the group was held in September at Ackergill Tower in Wick, and was supported by Eastern Airways.
