Three-day Aberdeen International Street Market returns this FridayThe popular award-winning Aberdeen International Street Market is returning for another visit from Friday 02 September until Sunday 04 September. Over 70 stallholders will take part in the market, which is expected to draw more than 120,000 people into the heart of Aberdeen over the three days.
The market features stalls, among many others, selling the finest cheeses from Italy, France Holland and England, specialist clothing from Finland, crafts and jewellery from Poland, Thailand, the UK, India, France, China and Indonesia, and flowers and plants from Holland.
The event is open 9am–6pm daily and is managed and organised by Paris-based Groupe Géraud, Europe’s largest street market operator, on behalf of Aberdeen City Council.
The Aberdeen International Street Market was voted top in the UK for 2011 and is the only genuine international market in the north of Scotland. Other far smaller versions do take place around the region, under the guise of continental markets and European markets, but these have no connection with the Aberdeen International Street Market.
City centre manager Tom Moore said: “The summer market is as usual the largest of the year, so expect a busy and interesting event with a huge selection of goods from around the world.
“Last year saw the introduction of traders from countries never before represented, bringing the total number of countries to 18, from the four corners of the world. Once again we will see many of the old favourites but this year we will be adding some newcomers.
“Come and delight in the tastes and aromas of the many international cooked foods on offer, and savour the atmosphere that this market uniquely gives. It is hugely magnetic.”
The markets will again be managed by Francois Xavier-Mauraisin from Paris, who said: “The traders are looking forward to the return to Aberdeen, by far their favourite in the UK. We are constantly searching the world for new things to tempt you and I hope that this year will see even more new names.’’
The market will visit Aberdeen again on 04-06 November. 196 views
