new chamber campaign drives forward transport awareness

HEAVY_TRAFFIC_004A Chamber campaign which will raise awareness about the key transport issues which impact on business and economic development in the North-east will be launched this month.

Over the course of the next year the Chamber, in association, with its partners will be working with representatives across all transport sectors to seek action at local and national level.

A steering group comprising these partners will lead the development of the campaign which will have further, ongoing input from the Chamber’s 1200 plus members. Membership of the group currently comprises: Colin Parker, Aberdeen Harbour; Kevin Brown, BAA Aberdeen; Bob Dorr, First Group; Eddie Anderson, ARR Craib; John Nelson, Aberdeen University; Derick Murray, Nestrans; Iain Gabriel, Aberdeenshire Council; Maggie Bochel, Aberdeen City Council; Ron Cookson, Technip (representing Chamber Board) ; Kevin McCormick, Covey McCormick (representing Chamber Council); Stewart Milne (ACSEF Transport Champion); Bob Collier, Kate Yuill, AGCC.

“Transport issues at local and national level are consistently of greater concern and irritation to members than any other issues affecting business in the North-east,” said Chamber Policy & Communications Manager Kate Yuill. “In addition to looking at local issues, we will also support major national campaigns in association with the Scottish and British Chambers of Commerce.

“The overarching message will be that investment in our infrastructure, in particular our transport infrastructure is absolutely crucial for the economic future growth and development of this region. We must have this if we are to remain competitive not only on a global level but closer to home at Scottish and UK levels.

“This campaign is very much about taking a partnership approach to what we see as the key issues. It is a problem which affects all sectors and we will be working with and supporting both the private and public sector to identify solutions and to encourage action. The steering group has very broad representation across the sector and will identify ways in which the different interests can work together to achieve results.”
