UK first for TCO

Aberdeen-based TCO In-Well Technologies UK Limited, a provider of well completion technologies to the global oil & gas industry, has successfully completed the first remote opening of their Tubing Disappearing Plug 2 (TDP-2) on a subsea well in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).

The operation, which was carried out for an oil major and thought to be worth a six figure sum, was successfully completed with the company’s patented TDP-2 Glass Plug being used as a secure ISO 14310 V0 certified barrier.

The client’s well planning called for the TDP-2 to be used as a pressure vessel to set the production packer at 4500psi. Once the packer was set, the completion string was then pressure tested for integrity.

Upon completion of the operation, and with the Xtree landed, the TDP-2 Glass Plug was then remotely pressure cycled to open without the need for intervention.

TCO UK sales & marketing manager, Rob Grassick, who is also chairman of industry body ICOTA, said: “TCO UK has had a very successful start since the company was founded in late 2009 and was initially involved in a number of similar operations based on platforms in the UKCS.

“With this remote work we have further proven the capability of our technology and now aim to build on our reputation for providing innovative and reliable well completion technologies.”

The firm’s in-well technologies provide innovative solutions to oil majors’ operational challenges - the patented laminated glass ISO 14310 VO certified isolation and barrier plugs are currently the only technology of its kind available to the market.
