University recognises outstanding students with awards ceremonyThe achievements of a select group of students at Robert Gordon University will be celebrated at the Student Representative Awards lunch tomorrow afternoon (Friday 15 April).
Now in its third year, the awards recognise the significant contributions made by students University-wide to improving the learning experience at course, school, faculty and wider University levels.
The two-month application period for students to put themselves forward for the awards closed mid-February. This year's winners were selected by a panel comprising members of the University's senior management team, the academic registrar, the student president and an external member from NUS Scotland. This year's winners are:
• Paul Dobra - 1st year BA (Hons) Management with Human Resource Management • Abigail Riva - 3rd year BSc (Hons) Media Studies • Aileen Stewart - 4th year BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy • Kirsty Maclean - 4th year BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics • Edith Dinkpa - MSc Financial Management • Ashraf Gouda - MBA Oil and Gas Management • Supriya Vasudevan - MSc International Business • Sini Tumba - MSc Project Management
This year the Panel also conferred a new award for 'Outstanding Contribution and Involvement' to Ross Murchison (Diploma Legal Practice) in recognition of, among other factors, his leadership of the student association between 2008 and 2010 and membership of the University's Board of Governors as a Postgraduate Student Governor.
The recipients will receive their awards at a lunchtime ceremony held within the University's Schoolhill campus. They will be joined by members of the adjudicating panel.
Panel Convenor and University Vice-Principal and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience and External Affairs), Shona Cormack, commented: "We have been hugely impressed by the achievements of all the individual applicants who demonstrate a consistently-high level of involvement , beyond their own personal studies.
Robert Gordon University values the vital role that student representation plays in helping us to ensure we listen to and respond to the needs to our student community. Our award winners have all demonstrated that they have made a significant and positive difference by working in constructive partnership with their fellow students and academic colleagues. "
All the applicants were praised for a number of achievements, including: Successful working relationships between staff and students; innovative attempts to gauge student opinion on matters of importance; and favourable staff and student references which depicted pro-active, mature, professional and committed students.
