Home Business Support Scams Unsolicited invoices

Unsolicited Invoices

Unsolicited invoices for business directories and websites
A couple of examples which have been circulating locally are United Media's "International Business & Trade Directory" and Eurorig Oilfield Publications' "Online Energy Trade Directory" www.energy-links.co.uk.

United Media activities are already well known to Trading Standards officers throughout the UK, who advise that these demands can be ignored. For further information see:
www.plymouth.gov.uk

A member contacted our Information Centre re an unsolicited invoice for an entry in the Online Energy Trade Directory" www.energy-links.co.uk There were several warning signs to indicated that this was not legitimate - no business telephone number on the invoice or the website, very unfavourable late payment terms, no energy trade directory at www.energy-links.co.uk . After some initial research the company was investigated by Aberdeen Trading Standards and we should be seeing no more of these invoices.

24 July 2007
A Chamber member has warned us of the latest telephone scam. They have received a number of phone calls recently who all started by thanking them for their support with a recent emergency service publication. The member company was then asked to which address the invoice should be sent. The company has never heard of any of these publications and has identified theses calls as a scam.
