VisitScotland publishes golf guide for Aberdeen City and ShireThe importance of golf tourism to Aberdeen City and Shire is highlighted by the publication of the latest golf guide for the region. The comprehensive guide, produced by VisitScotland as part of the national tourism agency’s dedicated golf marketing programme which targets golfers throughout the UK and in key international markets, features all 56 golf courses in Aberdeen City and Shire as well as a number of golfer friendly accommodation providers in the area.
The guide, with a print run of 15,000, will be the key element of marketing Aberdeen City and Shire as a golf destination, used in direct mailings and to fulfil enquiries generated by advertising. It will also be available in VisitScotland Information Centres and will be available at golf and tourism trade exhibitions attended by VisitScotland.
VisitScotland Regional Director Shona Anderson said: “We are very fortunate in Aberdeen City and Shire to have so many high quality golf courses and of course major upcoming developments such as Donald Trump’s new course on the Menie Estate. We have a great range of golf courses, with something to suit all abilities and tastes - everything from championships links courses to hilly inland courses, and even a cliff top course at Stonehaven. We also recently hosted the Walker Cup which provided a major economic benefit to the area as well as raising its profile as a world class golfing destination.
“Golf tourism is a major contributor to Scotland’s economy, worth an estimated £220 million overall to Scotland annually and supporting around 4,000 jobs. For every £1 spent on green fees, a further £5 is spent on extras such as hotels, restaurants and retail. Scotland attracts around 220,000 golfing visitors annually, while an estimated 92,000 ‘regular’ visitors to Scotland will also play golf whilst on holiday. It is therefore a valuable part of the Aberdeen City and Shire economy and it is imperative that we build on our strengths to continue to attract visitors to the region.” 119 views
