VOLUNTEERS DIG DEEP FOR PETERHEAD SCHOOL PROJECT

Work has started on a community project to makeover the playground and garden of a North-east school for children with learning difficulties.

Members of Aberdeen Foyer's Prince's Trust Team 24 and Aberdeen-headquartered oil company, CNR International, spent the day at the Anna Ritchie school in Peterhead on Tuesday (June 07) to commence work on the venture, which will enhance learning for pupils as well as improving outdoor space.

The project is being led by members of Aberdeen Foyer's Prince's Trust Team programme, a 12 week personal development programme for young people aged 16-25 who are not in employment, engagement or training. Members of Team 24, based in Peterhead, are assisting with the playground project.

Bryan Mackay, Prince’s Trust team leader and a learning support worker for Aberdeen Foyer, said: “We are delighted to be part of a project that will greatly improve outdoor facilities for young children in the local community.

“This is not just an opportunity to make a difference to the lives of young children at the Anna Ritchie school, but also those who are participating in our 12-week Prince’s Trust programme. Their participation in this scheme will help them to improve their confidence, engage with the local community and help to develop skills that will be valuable in the workplace.”

The playground improvement project has received a wealth of support from the business community, with companies including Speedyhire and CNRI providing tools, equipment and manpower.

Barry Duncan, Vice President of Finance at CNR International, added: “At CNR International, we are committed to making a difference to the local community, both through financial support and providing practical assistance to worthwhile causes. We became involved in the playground project through our sponsorship of, and participation in, the Prince’s Trust’s 12-week Peterhead scheme, where we deliver workshops on how to succeed in the recruitment process.”

CNR International is a division of Canadian Natural Resources Limited, an independent oil and natural gas exploration, development and production company headquartered in Calgary, Canada.

It manages and resources operations in the UK North Sea and offshore West Africa from its offices in Aberdeen, where it employs over 350 staff and contract employees.
