Volunteers needed for winter clean-up at Aberdeen nature reserve

Aberdeen City Council’s ranger service is seeking volunteers to help clean up a popular city beauty spot this weekend.

The volunteer day at the Donmouth Local Nature Reserve will start at 10am on Saturday [21 January] at the bird hide on the Esplanade and finish about 3pm.

Countryside ranger Rob Rowe said: “The main work will be to remove litter from the reserve. If we don’t keep it in check the litter could prove hazardous to wildlife. This important work will improve living conditions for the wildlife on the reserve.”

Other activities to be carried out include cutting back vegetation and repairing the mesh on the boardwalks. All tools and equipment will be provided for the work along with safety briefings. Everyone is welcome to attend but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Tea and coffee will be provided. Volunteers are asked to bring a packed lunch and wear stout footwear.

Call the countryside rangers on 01224 897400 to book and for more information.
