WHAT’S ALL THE DRAMA ABOUT AT ABERDEEN ARTS CENTRE
An ABERDEEN theatre youth group have bagged a prestigious project with Promote YT and the Scottish Community Drama Association. National drama advisor Carole Williams and Promote YT director Caroline Donald will work very closely with tutors, apprentices and the 15 young people aged 14 to 18 years in Aberdeen Arts Centre’s Act 2 group. They will work towards devising an original piece of theatre to be performed in Aberdeen Arts Centre in the annual SCDA Festival in February 2012.
Not only will this project increase performance skills and innovation and imagination, it will improve the self-confidence, social skills, team working and personal development of all young people involved, helping them move on to further education or careers in the arts or community education.
Paula Gibson, Executive Manager at Aberdeen Arts Centre commented:”This is a really exciting project which will not only enhance the young peoples’ theatre skills but give our tutors valuable insights into different ways of working.
“To give you an example of how thought provoking this project is – the Central Belt tutors sent a box of amazing artefacts to Act 2 to feed their imaginations and, judging by the response I witnessed last Saturday, it is all shaping up to be a spectacular and contemporary piece of theatre.”
There are still 6 spaces available in this award winning youth theatre group. Act 2 meets on a Saturday afternoon from 3.30pm to 5.30pm throughout the year. Anyone interested should contact Paula Gibson on (01224) 625208 or email paula@aberdeenartscentre.org.uk
