What’s in the bin? Essential waste analysis poised to start in AberdeenAberdeen City Council is to take an in-depth look at the contents of the average bin. The new study, expected to take place later this month [November], will help the council understand what residents are throwing away so future waste collection services meet the needs of the city. New national policies and targets for waste management and recycling mean all Scottish local authorities must increase access to services such as recycling centres, recycling points and kerbside collections.
Aberdeen City Council waste and recycling manager, Pete Lawrence said: “To plan for the future many councils, including Aberdeen, undertake waste composition research. This involves taking spot samples of waste and recycling containers from different parts of the city and splitting the contents into their individual materials.
“This gives us an indication of the overall quantity and types of waste being produced across the whole city. The information derived is very important to us but is not related back to individual households.”
The study will be taking place over the coming weeks, during which there may be more than one collection vehicle operating in some areas of the city. Collections will still be made from 7.00am on the normal collection day. 64 views
