Willing workers sought for SURF Aberdeen’s first volunteer dayWilling workers are being sought for the first Sustainable Urban Fringes (SURF) Aberdeen Volunteer Day at Seaton Park tomorrow (8 November). Volunteers will meet in the main car park at 10am before they are led along the woodland path and around the back of Hillhead Halls of Residence.
The group will be renovating French Drains put in by Aberdeen Greenspace a few years ago as well as cutting back branches from fallen trees.
A storm kettle will be on the go for essential tea breaks and chat with fellow volunteers whilst enjoying the Donside surroundings - a key element of SURF Volunteer Days.
SURF Aberdeen Project Officer and Countryside Ranger Stephen Bly said: “Local communities have made it very clear to us that small measures can make a big difference to their experience of the River Don corridor.
“The work we will be doing on this and other SURF Volunteer Days will be directed by the wishes of these communities, and hopefully carried out by them as well!”
The Sustainable Urban Fringes (SURF) Aberdeen Project’s work focuses on improving the quality of life of communities along the Donside through environmental improvement.
Part of the work has been about bringing together communities and organisations to improve their environment.
Volunteers should bring a packed lunch as well as waterproofs and appropriate footwear. The event is free but booking a place is essential. Please call 01224 897 400 or email lochinch@aberdeencity.gov.uk to book a place. 79 views
