Wilson James Celebrates 4 Years in Aberdeen

Wilson James Ltd are pleased to have completed their fourth year in Aberdeen managing the corporate man-guarding security services for a number of high profile blue chip customers.

Wilson James, a London based Security Company since 1991, opened the Aberdeen operation in March 2007 as part of a larger contract with Johnson Controls Workplace Solutions at BP North Sea. During the past four years they have successfully managed the security man-guarding for BP’s assets at Dyce and have grown their customer base to include a number other high profile customers. Wilson James were integral to the move to the new BP building at Wellheads Avenue in 2009 by adopting a flexible approach and supporting the Johnson Controls Facilites Team there with the provision of additional resources as required. These past 4 years have seen the quality of service continue to improve with several of the team having received praise and plaudits for their actions.

In an industry where 56/60 hour working weeks are the norm, Wilson James is the only company whose standard approach to man-guarding is to have their security officers rostered on a 4 shift on – 4 shift off shift pattern for 42/48 hours per week in compliance with the spirit of the Working Time Regulations. For our customers this means that 50% of the dedicated site based staff are rostered to be off duty at any one time and are available to support the team for scheduled and unscheduled absences or where additional resources are required. This is more difficult for other security providers who have less people in the system working longer hours. The principal benefits of operating within a 48 hour week is that our staff arrive for work rested, motivated and safety conscious.

Since September 2007 Wilson James have also managed the security arrangements for First Group plc at their new Headquarters building at King Street, Aberdeen. Wilson James’ flexible approach allowed them to meet First Group’s variable needs during the period of reconstruction and to provide staffing for additional temporary sites at Kittybrewster and Pittodrie where coaches and buses were necessariliy stored during the re-furbishment of the King Street site. With the new building now fully operational, Wilson James is proud to continue to deliver high quality security services to First Group plc.

When Subsea7 moved from their former sites at Westhill and Stoneywood during 2008 to their modern new corporate HQ at Arnhall, Westhill, Aberdeenshire, Wilson James ensured the security of their assets was properly managed by providing good quality man-guarding to the various properties during the transitional period. Wilson James is pleased to continue to work with Subsea7 in the provision of their man-guarding services at their corporate headquarters at Arnhall and at their Greenwell industrial site.

The Wilson James portfolio also includes Chevron North Sea’s prestigious site at Hill of Rubislaw, Expro North Sea at Dyce and Westhill and CNR at their Aberdeen city centre location.

Wilson James in Aberdeen is managed jointly by Keith Fleming, Business Services Manager, and Kevin Martin, Customer Service Manager, both of whom are former Police Superintendents with Grampian Police. They are line managed by Jamie Macpherson the Director-Scotland who is based in Livingston. Between them they have a breadth of situational, organisational and people management experiences which they routinely apply to the benefit of their customers.

Keith says, “Wilson James, security man-guarding offers job satisfaction and opportunities that meet the needs of a cross section of men and women whose experiences to date in the Industry may have proved to be less than satisfactory. Our passion is to spread the message that security can be a career of choice and encourage employers to see our security team as high quality professionals adding value to their business”.
