WORLDHOST CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAMME LAUNCHED

As Scotland prepares to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games and other major sporting events, People 1st – the sector skills council for hospitality, passenger travel and tourism – launched a campaign in Edinburgh on Wednesday 27th July to help Scottish businesses make sure they deliver the best quality customer service to welcome their visitors.

The campaign has the backing of Scottish businesses including the Gleneagles Hotel, and industry organisations VisitScotland and the Scottish Tourism Forum.

Raising customer standards, where necessary, will help Scotland make the most of the opportunities around the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and Scottish Homecoming. People 1st’s State of the Nation 2010 research highlighted that 64% of businesses in Scotland’s hospitality, leisure, travel and transport (HLTT) sector reported customer handling skills as an area in which they would like to improve. 24% stated that attracting new customers will be one of their biggest challenges over the next 12 months.

To help, WorldHost, a training programme which has already been used successfully at the Vancouver Winter Olympics to train 39,000 volunteers and tourism staff last year, has been developed for Scotland by People 1st.

David Allen, Head of Scotland at People 1st says: “Hosting a series of world-class events over the next few years offers Scotland a supreme opportunity both to advance the reputation of Scotland and boost the tourist economy. We need to ensure the visitor experience of Scotland is a very positive one and this will depend on how well we welcome and look after our guests.

The WorldHost training programme is set to raise standards and delivery of customer service training in Scotland and is a valuable tool for businesses wishing to protect their bottom line and improve customer retention rates. We also recognise how important it is to support our small and rural tourism businesses in delivering a high quality visitor experience. The flexibility of our programmes, coupled with the quality of licensed trainers across Scotland, means that WorldHost is suitable for businesses of all shapes, sizes and locations.”

DM Training Consultants Ltd, based in Portlethen is delighted to announce that they are licensed to offer both WorldHost Hospitality and Retail Programmes from this autumn. Bringing all their experience from the Hospitality and Retail Industry into the training environment will enable the programme to be delivered with the passion, fun and experience required to ensure delegates attending the training can make a real difference to the industry.
