Young Aberdeen chef joins Master Chef team for 50+ Festival gourmet dinnerEat on the Green’s young head chef Orry Shand will join an exclusive team of Master Chefs of Great Britain to create a gourmet dinner at the launch of Aberdeen City Council’s 50+ Festival. The event is being held at the Hilton Treetops Hotel on Monday 12 September, where a team of Scotland’s top chefs will take over the kitchen to produce a gastronomic delight using Aberdeenshire’s finest, freshest produce.
Orry – a Gold Medal winner at Scottish Culinary Championships 2011 – will be joined by Simon Gosling, George McIvor and Robert Lintott from Aberdeen, Graeme Pallister from Perth and Neil Mugg from Gleneagles.
The Master Chef association was formed in 1980 to provide a forum for the exchange of culinary ideas and to further the profession through training and guidance to young chefs. Master Chefs of Great Britain seeks to promote all that best about British cuisine and the wonderful ingredients produced and harvested in UK.
The 22-year-old will also show off his talents to the city’s food enthusiasts at the 50+ Festival’s Food Fair at the Douglas Hotel, Market Street, Aberdeen, on Thursday 15 September, where he will demonstrate his culinary skills in one of a series of cookery demonstrations throughout the day in conjunction with the indoor farmers market.
This free Festival event coincides with Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight’s promotion of fine Scottish produce, with four fun and informative demonstrations by award-winning chefs using locally sourced ingredients and many sampling and tasting opportunities.
George McIvor, Fellow and former Chairman of the Master Chefs said: “The 50+ Festival Launch Dinner provides a wonderful occasion to bring together Master Chefs from all over Scotland to work with and inspire some of Aberdeen’s up-and-coming young chefs while showcasing the region’s top produce.”
Orry said: “I am really delighted to be part of the chef team for the gourmet dinner. Although I am used to cooking under pressure in culinary competitions, the live cookery demonstration will be something new for me and I am really looking forward to it.”
Tickets for the Master Chefs Dinner are priced £47.50 and will include canapés and champagne, and a four-course dinner with specially selected wines and entertainment. Cookery demonstrations at the free Food Fair go ahead at 10.30am, 12.15pm, 2pm and 3.45pm. Tickets for both events are available from Aberdeen Box Office, tel (01224) 641122.
The two culinary events form only a small part of the extensive 50+ Festival programme, which runs throughout September and is funded from the city’s Common Good Fund.
