Paddy Collins, CEO, Aubin Group
Emma Parsons, Regional Director, Bahrain Economic Development Board
Jim Shiach, Managing Director, Centrifuges Un-Limited

In 2016 the collective trade between UK & Bahrain totalled over £250million.  There are 500 UK entities and over 90 businesses registered and operating in the Kingdom, a figure which is growing as companies doing business in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) recognise the potential of Bahrain as a strategic gateway to this $1.6trillion market.

Bahrain has key opportunities across a wide range of sectors and Scottish companies continue to be successful in providing key transport and infrastructure developments.  Successes have been found in areas such as BAPCO and airport expansions along with services to support education, training and security, and tourism, leisure, financial and professional services.

Emma Parsons is the UK based regional director for the Bahrain Economic Development Board, the dynamic public agency with overall responsibility for attracting inward investment into Bahrain and supporting initiatives that help enhance the business climate in the country.

In her presentation, Emma will give an overview of Bahrain’s business environment, direct opportunities for international companies, key areas of growth and how to use Bahrain as a strategic hub to access the close on $2trillion opportunity presented by the wider Gulf region.

Jim Shiach is managing director for Aberdeen based Centrifuges Un-Limited, a company which continues to successfully grow its local and global presence, including within the Middle East.

Jim will give a brief overview of the current Middle East market and Centrifuges Un-Limited’s journey in the market to date.  The Middle East is an attractive market for most industries but is extremely complex in nature, Jim will reflect on lessons learned and highlight their key strategy successes and challenges faced giving some insights into what they would do differently if they were to do it again.

Paddy Collins is the CEO of Aubin Group, a company supplying specialist chemicals and chemical technology to the oil industry with a head office in Ellon, and businesses in the Middle East based in Dubai and the US based in Houston.  In 2015 Aubin was awarded the Queens Award for International Trade.

With experience in supplying products to the Middle East for over 20 years, Paddy will talk us through what they have learnt over this time on what works and what doesn’t, and what you need to consider and understand if you plan to enter this market.
