This breakfast is part of North East Business Week and will launch The Ultimate Business Show 2017, focusing on the theme of ‘Opportunity Driving Growth’.
The business of broadcasting
The broadcasting industry has gone through seismic change over the last 20 years and continues to do so at an unprecedented rate. How do you turn uncertainty into opportunity and evolve a business to make sure it’s offering remains relevant to existing viewers whilst also being match fit and ready for the next chapter and future audience? This is the challenge facing BBC Scotland and the wider BBC as it embarks on a new Royal Charter.
Alan Dickson, BBC Scotland’s chief operating officer and Geraldine McCartney, BBC Scotland’s finance business partner will give an overview of the BBC’s business in Scotland, how it impacts the wider creative industry and what opportunities it needs to use to keep it relevant to all audiences in an ever increasing digital age.
Social media, cloud working, crowd sourcing, open innovation, ‘micro payments’ (eg. apps) and free to use services have changed the world of business and we’ve all seen companies have failed to adapt to a changing marketplace and customer priorities. Dr Ian Heywood will explore how two industries – music and banking have been, and are now being transformed, by disruptive innovation.
