Whatever happens on March 29, 2019 and in the following months, our focus at the Chamber remains firmly on assessing the implications for business, seeking clarity and providing practical guidance on the key issues our members need to be aware of.

A British Chamber of Commerce survey shows that 67% of businesses in Scotland have not carried out any kind of assessment on the impact of Brexit to their business, making Scotland the least prepared part of the UK.

There are practical steps companies can take right now, such as looking at their supply chain to assess the potential risks Brexit could have on their organisation.

By attending this event delegates will enhance their awareness of the potential changes and help identify the key risks and misson-critical issues driven by Brexit.  An understanding of the future EU international trade arrangements, exploring the likely outcomes of how Brexit will affect Customs and the potential consequence of deal or no deal will be covered.

Any company involved in international trade should be exploring Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) certification.  This is an internationally recognised quality mark which demonstrates that a company’s role in the international supply chain is secure and its customs controls and procedures are efficient and compliant.   The scheme is available to any company which carries out global customs-related activities including manufacturers, exporters and importers.

This event will provide an introduction to the potential benefits of AEO, business compliance and estimate the investment required in time and resource.

Finally, delegates will hear about the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS) currently introduced by HMRC, the replacement to the 25 year old Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system and how the Chamber could assist businesses in a smooth transition mitigating the risks associated with the introduction of this new system.

* Please note that this event is also running on 8th February & 26th February 2019
