Our role is to work with local businesses to help them identify circular economy opportunities and to access the necessary support and funding to be able to realise these opportunities. Through the partnership, we are also seeking to raise wider awareness of the circular economy and the opportunities it presents.

Zero Waste Scotland exists to create a society where resources are valued and nothing is wasted. They are funded by the Scottish Government and the European Regional Development Fund. Part of their work is to encourage greater awareness amongst Scottish Businesses around the circular economy and to help them access funding to develop business opportunities.

The £18m Circular Economy Investment Fund, administered by Zero Waste Scotland, offers investment for SMEs based in Scotland and supports work that will deliver circular economy growth. It is supported by the European Regional Development Fund through the £73m Resource Efficiency Circular Economy Accelerator Programme.

The Circular Economy Business Support Service provides one to one consultancy support to help companies explore more circular ways of doing business. This could be looking at business models around sharing resources, modular design, re-use and repair, remanufacturing and reprocessing.

This could include:

  • Identifying opportunities
  • Developing a business case
  • Assessing market opportunities
  • Support in identifying funding opportunities
  • Communication and marketing support

On completion businesses will have a clear picture of the benefits and costs of their proposed intervention and a well-defined pathway towards implementation.

Businesses may then be able to access funding from the Circular Economy Investment fund to implement the plan.
