Asthma and Allergy Foundation, Scotland’s only dedicated asthma charity, is hosting a Coffee Morning on World Asthma Day.
The Coffee Morning is open to local businesses and members of the public, as Asthma and Allergy Foundation talk about asthma, how to support people with asthma and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and some freshly baked treats!
Martina Chukwuma-Ezike, chief executive, said: “Asthma can have a significant impact on the overall quality of life for the individual, causing children to miss school, adults to miss work, while others may need to care for a family member with the condition. The good news, however, is that with proper education, treatment and management, people with asthma can live a normal life and be active just like anyone else”.
As a Charity, one of the key things we do is to educate people living with asthma on how to effectively self-manage their asthma, encouraging them to play an active role in managing their asthma and keeping their symptoms under control. If you, your friend, colleague or a family member has asthma, come along to the Coffee Morning to find out what support we can give to you and your family.
Dami Jaiyesimi, health promotion manager, added: “Asthma is so common that everyone probably knows someone with the condition. In Scotland, 368,000 people (1 in 14), including 72,000 children have asthma. Every 10 seconds someone is having a potentially life-threatening asthma attack which can happen at anywhere - at home, at school, at work or at social gatherings. This makes it very important to educate relatives, friends, peers, colleagues and members of the community about asthma, how to recognise its symptoms and what to do in an asthma attack”.
The Coffee Morning is a great opportunity to learn more about the work we do, including trainings and workshops for businesses and other organisations to increase asthma awareness and reduce the impact of asthma in the work place.
Peter, who volunteers with the charity commented: “If you are simply looking to give back, get involved and support this worthwhile cause, we have some exciting activities planned to help you raise funds to support people with asthma and have fun while doing it.”
The Coffee Morning takes palce on May 7, from 10am - 12pm, click here to find out more.
