Rick Astley will stage a one-off performance for Maggie’s from his studio at home on 25 September as part of the cancer charity’s annual Culture Crawl.
The singer has been a Maggie’s Ambassador since 2017. He will perform two songs as part of Maggie’s Virtual Culture Crawl this year – an event which has had to be taken online due to Coronavirus.
Rick Astley said: “I am so pleased to be able to show my support for Maggie’s and help people with cancer. Coronavirus has meant many people living with cancer have experienced trauma over the last few months and the impact of lockdown and shielding will be felt by them for a long time to come, which is why the support of Maggie’s is needed now more than ever.”
The hour long programme of entertainment will be hosted by TV presenter Gethin Jones and will also include our Ambassadors Ryan Riley of Life Kitchen and Daisy Goodwin who will recite poetry on the evening.
Maggie’s chief executive Laura Lee added: “We’re delighted that Rick Astley is pulling out the stops to put on a one-off performance for us. Our Virtual Culture Crawl is going to be a really fun evening, helping to raise funds to help people living with cancer now when they need our support more than ever.
“We know the trauma many people with cancer have experienced in the past months because of the impact of lockdown and also that our practical, emotional and psychological support will be needed more than ever in coming months. I am so grateful to Rick and everyone else who has given their time to be part of our exclusive night of entertainment.”
