Aberdeen QHSE professionals on board for zero waste

Aberdeen QHSE professionals on board for zero waste

A group of North-east firms have joined forces to provide invaluable advice on improving health, safety and environmental (HSE) performance.

More than 50 business people, including professionals with responsibility for environmental management, came on-board the Hrossey, operated by NorthLink Ferries, for a special event at Jamieson Quay, Aberdeen Harbour.

The lunch-and-learn format has been developed by design, print and digital specialist, XIC, along with waste and recycling business, One Stop Waste Solutions. Following the success of a similar event held in December, the companies teamed up with NorthLink Ferries to once again raise awareness around key safety and environmental issues, such as diverting waste from landfill.

This latest workshop, aimed at bringing industry professionals together, building connections and sharing examples of best practice, featured a series of informative talks from each of the three organisers.

These focused around key HSE issues, including preparing for the approaching landfill ban in 2021, strategies for implementing zero waste policies in the workplace and a case study on embedding safety for a global drilling company.

Craig Donoghue, managing director at One Stop Waste Solutions, said: “Events like these play an important role in shaping positive changes across the local economy and we were delighted with both the turnout and the initial feedback from many of our clients and contacts across a wide range of business sectors.

“Delegates left buoyed by advice on improving their waste management processes and making their operations as waste-free as possible. I look forward to them taking the lessons learned through this event back into their respective workplaces and seeing the improvements that will undoubtedly follow.”

Seumas Campbell, Serco’s customer service director for NorthLink Ferries, said: “Reducing our impact on the natural environment is a real priority for us and something that many of our staff are passionate about.

“We recycle more than 85% of the waste we generate on board our vessels and are always looking at ways of improving our practices to make further improvements. We enjoyed working with One Stop Waste in supporting this event by providing a unique location for it on board one of our vessels.”
