I was recently asked by a governing body why Subsea Micropiles continues to invest in Aberdeen and recruit from the region. The answer is simple, it comes down to experience built over decades.

Aberdeen has spent more than 50 years building one of the most advanced subsea engineering ecosystems anywhere in the world. The challenges of the North Sea demanded innovation at scale, and in response, the region developed a depth of expertise that’s difficult to replicate. That knowledge hasn’t disappeared, it’s being carried forward and applied to new sectors.

Today, the UK subsea industry supports tens of thousands of jobs and contributes billions to the economy each year, with Aberdeen at the centre of that activity. You see it in the strength of the supply chain, the specialist capabilities of local businesses, and the calibre of engineers the region continues to produce.

For a company like ours, that matters.

We’ve recently opened a second office in Westhill, alongside our established presence in Montrose. Westhill places us right in the middle of the subsea cluster, close to clients, partners and the kind of technical talent that understands the realities of offshore work. Being here isn’t just convenient, it’s strategically important.

We’re also investing in the next generation. By working closely with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) and the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, we’re supporting young people and early-career professionals with the skills, confidence and opportunities they need to build their futures here.

But our presence in Aberdeen isn’t only about access to skills. It’s also about being part of the community.

We believe that if you operate in a region, you should contribute to it. Supporting Deeside Rugby is one small way we do that, helping provide facilities, and playing an active role within the club. It’s about staying connected to the local community and supporting the development of talent across the north east.

There’s also a broader point about Aberdeen itself. It’s often described as being in transition, but from where we sit, it’s continuing to evolve. The same expertise that built its reputation in oil and gas is now being applied to offshore wind, carbon capture and wider subsea infrastructure.

That aligns closely with what we do at Subsea Micropiles. Delivering specialist foundation solutions in challenging marine environments, relies on the kind of experience and capability that this region has developed over decades.

So when we’re asked why we employ from Aberdeen, the answer is straightforward. This is where the expertise is and why we continue to invest, grow and build out future here.
