BoConcept are no stranger to designing inviting aspirational spaces. As staging sponsor for the Ultimate Masterclass Festival for the second consecutive year, they have brought their sophisticated brand of understated luxury to Aberdeen’s Music Hall for a series of sold-out events, creating backdrops that encourage each of the star guests to take centre stage in comfort and share their insights with candour.
When An Evening with Louis Theroux, sold out within less than 48 hours, we knew this was more than just a staging design — it was an opportunity to craft an experience. A backdrop for storytelling, a platform for conversation, and a space that would reflect the charisma and curiosity of one of Britain’s most iconic interviewers. Read on, as Alana from BoConcept takes the opportunity to walk you through the hard work behind the scenes and explain steps taken to achieve that final result.
The vision
Our concept was simple: let the furniture and design do what BoConcept does best — speak without words. The setting needed to feel intelligent and intimate, stylish but not over-designed and of course the most important element when designing for in-depth conversational events such as the Ultimate Masterclass Festival, is comfort! No one will relax and open up if they are constantly fidgeting in their seat. Thankfully, BoConcept have an extensive range of sofas and living chairs within their collection, that can be combined in any number of ways to suit.
According to BoConcept’s Regional Design Manager, Alana Colville said: “Designing for a single speaker is exciting, as you can tailor your selection to their personality. The aesthetic had to complement Louis Theroux’s thoughtful and unassuming presence. I opted for a palette of rich textures and warm tones – soft leathers, dark wood and subtle accents that add depth without stealing the spotlight. Organic-lined silhouettes, layered lighting, carefully chosen accessories and, of course, some strategically chosen plants from Rooted in Scotland helped soften the stage and make it feel inviting and personal.
Design in motion: Seamless installation
Our talented in-house installation team brought the vision to life with their signature precision and care. Working closely with Alana and the stage design, they transformed an empty stage into a living, breathing environment — all within a tightly coordinated schedule.
The process was, in a word, seamless. Our team’s deep understanding of both BoConcept design principles and the logistics of large-format installations made for an effortless execution that stayed true to the creative direction without compromise.
The final masterpiece
The result? A stage with serious wow factor. As Louis Theroux stepped into the space, the audience was met with a scene that felt more like a sophisticated lounge than a formal interview setting. Comfortable, considered, and quietly striking — just like the man himself.
The success of this project wasn’t just in the furniture we placed or the styling we applied. It was in the story we told. A story that aligned with the spirit of the evening, reflected BoConcept’s design ethos, and demonstrated our ability to deliver elevated experiences that make lasting impressions.
