In an industry often defined by strength, resilience, and long hours, the conversation around mental health,  particularly men’s mental health has too often been left unspoken. W M Donald is determined to change that.

Inspired by Andy Joss’s powerful acceptance speech for the Local Hero Award at the 2025 cHerRies Awards, the team at W M Donald has partnered with Men In Mind, the initiative Andy and Crystal Green founded to support men’s mental health and wellbeing. His passion and dedication to breaking down barriers and encouraging open conversations have been nothing short of inspiring.

Recognising the importance of collaboration, W M Donald’s Board members recently met with Andy and Rachel O’Donnell, HR Manager, along with Craig Hunter, HSEQ Manager, to discuss how the company can continue to promote mental health awareness across all levels of the business.

The partnership began with the launch of W M Donald’s first podcast episode, featuring Andy Joss as a guest. In this candid conversation, Andy shared his personal journey and insights into how we can all support one another both on and off site. The podcast will be shared internally with all W M Donald employees and made available to the wider community, with the aim of sparking more open, honest discussions about mental wellbeing.

“It’s about breaking the stigma,” said Rachel O’Donnell. “We want our people to know it’s okay not to be okay  and that help, understanding, and support are available.”

Andy Joss, founder of Men In Mind, added: “When I first started Men In Mind, it was about giving men the space to talk  without fear of judgment. To see companies like W M Donald take this message seriously and make it part of their culture is incredible. It shows real leadership and a genuine commitment to change.”

Craig Hunter, HSEQ Manager at W M Donald, reflected: “Health and safety have always been central to what we do  but mental health is just as important as physical safety. Partnering with Andy and Men In Mind gives us the tools and confidence to make sure every one of our people feels supported, both at work and at home.”

Through this collaboration with Men In Mind, W M Donald is reinforcing its commitment to a culture of care, empathy, and openness. The company hopes this initiative will not only benefit its own workforce but also inspire others to prioritise mental health as a vital part of safety and wellbeing.
