Westhill-based ORKA Solutions says 2026 could be one of the most significant years yet for Scotland’s clean energy transition — with new funding rounds, frameworks, and national policy shifts creating more ways for organisations to invest in solar, storage and EV charging.
The Scottish and UK Governments are both expanding their approach to net zero — blending community-level funding with large-scale investment under Great British Energy. ORKA has highlighted five areas where businesses, councils and community groups should focus their attention as the new year approaches:
CARES Community Buildings Fund – Final applications close at the end of October. The scheme offers up to 80% of project costs (capped at £80,000) for renewable upgrades to community halls, churches and hubs.
Workplace and SME EV Grants – The UK’s Workplace Charging Scheme and SME Infrastructure Grant both remain open until March 2026, offering up to £15,000 per site and £350 per socket — ideal for businesses electrifying their fleets or providing staff charging.
Rural and Island EV Infrastructure Fund – £4.5 million of Scottish Government funding is available to strengthen charging networks in rural and island communities, with higher awards for innovative projects that integrate solar and battery storage.
Public-Sector Frameworks – The next intake for Scotland’s £120 million SPA N9 Retrofit & Decarbonisation Framework is expected in 2026, creating opportunities for installers and suppliers to deliver long-term renewable projects across the public estate.
Tax and ROI Incentives – Non-domestic rates relief for new solar installations and full-expensing capital allowances both continue to strengthen the financial case for investment.
“The next phase of Scotland’s clean energy journey isn’t just about single-site installations — it’s about connecting solar, storage and charging into smarter systems,” explains Duncan Booth, Director at ORKA Solutions. “We’re preparing for that shift now so our customers are ready when new funding and framework opportunities open.”
