WHAT ARE SPRING HANGERS?
Spring hanger pipe supports are a critical component of piping systems where thermal expansion and contraction result in movement throughout the process pipework. They are a mechanical means of supporting the pipe load whilst allowing controlled vertical movement of the pipe during thermal expansion and contraction.
HOW DO THEY WORK?
Within the spring hanger casing, a coiled spring is adjusted to a set load and travel tolerance for the pipe it supports. This allows the predetermined range of thermal movement experienced by the pipe during both operating and non-operating conditions.
WHY CUT THEM?
Over time, the integrity of spring hangers can degrade, requiring them to be safely removed and replaced periodically. During the removal process, the internal coiled spring contains a significant amount of stored energy, which can be a hazard to personnel working on them or to surrounding plant.
OUR SOLUTION....
By using remotely operated ultra-high-pressure abrasive water jetting, the spring coil can be safely cold cut in situ and de-energised prior to the spring hanger being removed and handled by personnel.
