Whether it’s analysing cashflow or managing budgets, financial skills are more crucial than ever.

And this has made it even more crucial that as many people as possible have a working knowledge of finance, especially those whose decisions can have an impact on the business.

This intensive course is designed to provide participants with a good grounding in many aspects of finance, including interpretation of financial statements, management accounts, budgets and investment appraisal decisions.

What will you learn?

Delegates on this course will learn:

  • The principles of and differences between, financial accounts and management accounts
  • How to prepare and understand a profit and loss account and balance sheet, the relationship between them and consider their significance within your own organisation and how operational decisions can impact on the results
  • How to produce a cash flow forecast and understand the difference between profit and cash and why it matters
  • How to undertake effective business performance analysis
  • How to understand budgetary procedures with particular attention given to interpreting people’s motivation to action and achieving ‘win/win’ outcomes
  • How to prepare a variety of budgets
  • How to understand costing principles and the difference between variable and fixed costs
  • How to ask relevant questions about financial matters
  • How to consider alternative investment appraisal methods

Who is it for?

Business owners, board members, managers, professionals and support staff who require a detailed knowledge of finance, how it all works and how it impacts on their area of responsibility.

This course would also suit those who have completed the Chamber’s ‘Basics of Business Finance’ course and wish to expand their knowledge further.

Cost and duration

This course lasts for two days and is delivered at the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce Training Hub by our approved expert trainer.

These sessions are also perfect for groups of staff that require the same training and can also be organised at your offices, an external location of your choosing, or as an online session.
