About the speakers
Claire Coutinho is the Shadow Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, having held the same role in government from August 2023 to July 2024. She was the youngest member of Rishi Sunak’s Cabinet and the first from the 2019 intake to be promoted to a senior ministerial post.
During her time in government, she oversaw key elements of the UK’s energy policy, including investment in offshore wind, nuclear, and carbon capture, and worked closely with industry on plans to strengthen the nation’s energy resilience. She was a prominent voice in debates over the Energy Profits Levy and the future of the North Sea.
Elected as MP for East Surrey in 2019, she began her career in finance before moving into public policy and later joining the Treasury as a special adviser. In opposition, she continues to focus on driving growth in the low-carbon economy while safeguarding jobs in the UK’s oil and gas sector.
Kate Forbes is the Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch constituency, and is the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for the Economy in the Scottish Government.
In her role overseeing Scotland’s economy, Kate is a champion for the enormous opportunities in green energy and attracting inward investment into technologies such as offshore wind.
She plays a key role in supporting Scotland’s just transition, working to ensure that investment in renewables goes hand in hand with protecting jobs and expertise in the oil and gas sector. Kate has been a strong advocate for Aberdeen and the North-east as central to delivering the country’s future energy security.
