An exciting new chapter is beginning for Albyn Nursery as its Toddler and Preschool children prepare to move into a new home within the school building from October 26, bringing them closer to the people, places and experiences that make up the wider Albyn community.

Designed with little learners in mind, the new Nursery brings children together across four dedicated rooms on one floor, with direct access to a private outdoor playground. From cosy corners and creative spaces to construction areas, water play and mud kitchens, the environment has been created to inspire curiosity, encourage independence and make every day an opportunity for discovery.

The children themselves have helped bring it to life. As preparations have gathered pace, Nursery pupils have been involved in deciding how their new rooms should look, helping to plan where toys and resources belong and getting their new play spaces ready. Their ideas have helped shape an environment that feels welcoming, familiar and full of possibilities, and the excitement among the children has been clear to see.

A nursery at the heart of school life

The move is about much more than a new setting. By bringing Nursery into the school building, Albyn is creating even more opportunities for its youngest pupils to feel part of the school community from their very first days.

With closer access to the school’s PE and sports facilities, music spaces and library, children will be able to discover new interests, enjoy a wider range of experiences and become familiar with the environment they will grow into as they progress through the school.

This connection will also help prepare children for their next steps into Primary 1, where familiar surroundings, faces and experiences can help make the transition feel more natural and reassuring.

The new layout will encourage greater opportunities for free-flow play across Preschool, giving children more freedom to explore different spaces, follow their interests and learn together. Older children will have more opportunities to support younger peers, share their discoveries and act as positive role models, helping to nurture friendships, confidence and a strong sense of belonging.

Nichola Crawford, Deputy Head (Pupil Wellbeing) at Albyn, said: “We’re incredibly excited to see our Nursery move into its new home. The children have already played such a lovely part in preparing their rooms, and it has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they help make the spaces their own.

Being part of the wider school building will open up so many opportunities for our youngest learners, from exploring new interests and learning alongside older children to becoming familiar with the facilities and people they will encounter as they grow. Most importantly, we want every child to feel happy, confident and at home at Albyn from the moment they join us.”

A warm welcome for local families

The new facilities have already received a positive response from the Albyn community. Earlier this month, Nursery pupils invited their families to an open evening to enjoy a first look at the new environment, with the modern spaces and opportunities they offer generating considerable enthusiasm.

Now, Albyn is extending that welcome to families across the local area.

On Friday 13 November, those exploring their nursery options will have the opportunity to visit, explore the new facilities and find out more about the early years experience at Albyn. It will be a chance to see the spaces where children will play, learn and develop, meet members of the team and discover what makes the Nursery a special place to begin their educational journey.

With its new surroundings, child-centred spaces and closer connection to the wider school, Albyn Nursery is looking forward to an exciting next chapter. Register your interest for their Open Event on 13 November here.
