Industrial services provider Bilfinger acquired UK-based nZero Group, including its two subsidiaries Orbital Gas Systems Ltd and Thyson Technology Ltd on May 12 2025.

The integration has strengthened Bilfinger’s position as a leading solutions partner in the gas and hydrogen sectors, adding specialist expertise in gas measurement, analysis and control systems, and a strong track record across the energy value chain.

Over the past 12 months, the team has delivered a series of integration and operational milestones ensuring a smooth incorporation into the Bilfinger organisation, while aligning systems and processes. This has included the integration into Bilfinger’s Prefabrication and Installation Business Unit, ensuring continuity for clients and unlocking opportunities for broader technical synergies across the organisation.

The first year of collaboration has delivered strong progress across key areas, including enhanced outcomes for customers and effective delivery across complex gas network and energy transition projects. This has encompassed major infrastructure programmes, including gas quality upgrades, as well as a range of high-profile renewable energy projects.

In each case, specialist gas and hydrogen expertise from across the Bilfinger organisation has been seamlessly integrated to deliver safe, reliable and technically advanced solutions.

Darren Clement, Business Unit President Prefabrication and Installation, Western Europe at Bilfinger, said: “One year on, the benefits of bringing nZero into the Bilfinger family are clear. The added specialist engineering capability, combined with our scale and delivery strength, has created a stronger and more agile offering for our customers.

“We enter our second year together with a clear focus on continuing growth and supporting the UK’s decarbonisation ambitions. The combined organisation is well-positioned to support emerging hydrogen infrastructure, advanced gas measurement systems, CCUS applications and wider clean energy opportunities. These areas were core to the vision outlined at the time of the acquisition and continue to drive the strategy forward.”

Karl Daniel, nZero Business Line Director at Bilfinger, said: “This has been a year of strong teamwork, shared ambition and continued client focus. The past year has enhanced our ability to deliver innovative technical solutions while staying true to the specialist expertise our customers value.

“Looking ahead, the future is genuinely exciting. The business is strongly positioned within the energy transition, digitalisation and infrastructure-resilience agendas, supported by the scale and capability of the wider Bilfinger Group, and powered by an experienced, passionate and highly respected team.”
