AAF Health Management Open Day

The over 35,000 people living with asthma in the Grampian area are at an increased risk of having an asthma attack this winter.

People with long-term respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may experience worsening symptoms with colder weather and statistics show that GP surgeries and hospitals see an increase in visits from people with respiratory conditions during winter.

To help those with asthma and respiratory conditions prepare for the cold months ahead, Asthma and Allergy Foundation, an Aberdeen based charity, in collaboration with other organisations, is holding an Asthma & Respiratory Health Management Open Day on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Aberdeen Health Village, Frederick St, Aberdeen, AB24 5HY from 9.00am – 12.00pm.

As the only asthma charity in Scotland, Asthma and Allergy Foundation provides evidence-based health information, confidential advice and support to people with asthma, their families, carers and friends across the north-east of Scotland and aims to ensure that those they support can live a healthy life and reduce the rate of hospitalisations and deaths due to asthma.

Dami Jaiyesimi, health promotion manager, said “At Asthma and Allergy Foundation, we believe that people with asthma and respiratory health conditions should be able to live symptom-free – even in winter. We understand that effective care for such conditions goes beyond treatment and the use of medication as there are several other factors such as financial, mental, physical and social that can significantly affect an individual’s ability to optimally control their health condition. Therefore, we have teamed up with other organisations to provide holistic information and support to those who are at risk this winter”.

With representatives from Home Energy Scotland, Buteyko Breathing Method, Nuffield Health, NHS, CAP Job Club, attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Get one-to-one advice on managing their respiratory health condition and getting the best from their health care.
  • Learn about the Buteyko method of breathing and how this can complement treatment and help manage symptoms.
  • Find out about the NHS smoking cessation support.
  • Find out from Home Energy Scotland advisers about the practical and financial help available to help the family keep warm and well this winter.
  • Get advice and support from the professionals from Nuffield Health to find the right exercise and nutrition plan.
  • Get support from CAP Job Club to get back to work to help reduce the financial burden of living with a respiratory condition.
