Aberdeen Arts Centre could be saved following news that the council will receive a £20million grant.

The UK government funding aims to help local authorities "revive high streets, parks, and public spaces".

The cash boost for the city is part of wider £5billion programme designed to improve towns and cities across the UK.

The announcement comes just months after The Press and Journal revealed that Aberdeen Arts Centre faced potential closure.

Now, campaigners are urging that part of the £20million be allocated to the city’s entertainment venue to secure its future.

The Press and Journal reports that councils will also gain new powers to safeguard pubs and libraries, while curbing the spread of betting shops, vape outlets and so-called “fake barbers.”
