A donation from a leading global financial firm will help improve the quality of life for disabled children living in London. The contribution from the Aberdeen Charitable Foundation will be used by charity Newlife to provide vital specialist equipment to those most in need.

Although a national charity, demand for Newlife’s services in London remains high. Since it was founded in 1991, the charity has supported almost 1,000 children in the area – raising over £1.1 million for essential equipment like wheelchairs, specialist beds and mobility aids for children whose families may not otherwise be able to provide them.

Chris Fielding, deputy community fundraising manager at Newlife, says, “We are extremely grateful to receive the generous donation of £500 from the Aberdeen Charitable Foundation. Newlife guarantees that 100% of the donation will go towards the equipment needs of disabled and terminally ill children in London, not a penny on our running costs.

“Newlife has helped just under 1,000 children in London and this will enable us to help change even more lives, bringing safety, comfort, freedom and independence to children in urgent need.”

As well as providing grants for specialist medical equipment, Newlife also offers care services through a national helpline, giving easy access to fully qualified nurses who can answer a wide gamut of questions. The charity also loans equipment and specialist therapy toys.

Claire Drummond, head of charitable giving at Aberdeen Charitable Foundation, says, “Specialist equipment – like that provided by Newlife – can prove to be life-changing for children living with disabilities. Hundreds of children across London have already benefitted from Newlife’s services, and we are delighted to be able to support the charity in continuing their very admirable mission.”
