Asthma and Allergy Foundation, a local charity based in Aberdeen, provides evidence-based health information, confidential advice and support to people with asthma, their families, carers and friends across the North-east of Scotland.
The charity which marked its 10th anniversary this year has experienced an increase in the demand for its services, especially over the winter. For the over 35,000 people living with asthma in the Grampian area, the condition is harder to control during the colder months and unfortunately many will find themselves hospitalised due to asthma over the festive period.
The charity whose trustees, staff and volunteers all have personal experiences of asthma, understand the many challenges faced by people living with the condition and the burden placed on families when asthma is poorly controlled. Thus, the charity is seeking donations to help us continue our mission to provide education and support to patients and families living with asthma and allergies, ensuring that all those who turn to us for support get the help that they or their loved ones need to live healthy, active lives – not limited by asthma or allergies.
Commenting on the charity’s “Give the Gift of Breath this Christmas” appeal, Dami Jaiyesimi, health promotion manager, said “Your generous support allows Asthma and Allergy Foundation provide education and support through our asthma management sessions which are run at our Asthma Support Centre in Dyce and at several locations across the city. Also, your support helps the 72,000 children with asthma learn how to manage their symptoms and the over 50s feel confident about controlling their health in their older years. We are also able to provide up-to-date information on asthma and allergy developed by a team of medical professionals”.
Martina Chukwuma-Ezike, chief executive, added “We hope that at this festive time of year, you can consider making a small donation to support the work that we do at Asthma and Allergy, and help us continue to provide essential services to improve the quality of life and health outcomes for people living with asthma and allergies. No amount is too small to make a difference in someone's life”.
