Pupils at Aberdeen City Music School are celebrating once again following an outstanding set of results in the recent diet of Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity exams.
Students at the school achieved a total of 19 distinctions overall and in, one instance, an exceptional score of 143/150 for a Grade 8 student, 15 years old Kristen Forbes.
ABRSM is the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music, delivering over 650000 music exams and assessments every year in 93 countries while Trinity College London (TCL) is an examinations board which offers graded and diploma qualifications, up to postgraduate level, across a range of disciplines in the performing arts and English language learning and teaching in over 70 countries worldwide.
Councillor John Wheeler, education operational delivery convener, congratulated the talented pupils: “This is tremendous news and yet another fantastic achievement for the Aberdeen City Music School. The budding musical talent we have here in Aberdeen is phenomenal and the tutelage our young people are receiving at the school is second to none.”
Mrs Sonia Scaife, director of Aberdeen City Music School, said: “This shows what incredibly talented students are at the school and the fantastic level of tuition offered by the staff at ACMS. I am incredibly proud of all the students who entered”.
The news comes just five months after four pupils - Andrew Neill, Duncan Ritchie, Elizabeth Mackenzie and Daniel Toderas – were offered places in the Performance and Scottish Traditional courses at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
The City Music School is based at Dyce Academy and is one of only four of its kind in Scotland. Places are free and pupils receive top class tuition from tutors who travel to the school from all over Scotland.
