Protea Consultancy has translated more than 30 years of contract and commercial experience into Scope, a platform designed for businesses across energy, engineering and construction.
An Aberdeen-based, family-owned consultancy has launched a new digital platform to help businesses understand the risks, obligations and commercial exposure contained within the contracts they negotiate and manage.
Scope by Protea has been created by Protea Consultancy, which provides contract management, procurement, supply-chain, commercial governance and operational support to organisations across the energy, engineering and construction sectors. The platform turns the practical contracting principles used within Protea's consultancy work into a consistent and repeatable assessment process.
Users upload a contract, which is assessed against Protea's contracting principles matrix to identify potential risks, obligations, gaps and areas of commercial exposure. Scope then produces structured findings, a risk report and a qualifications table that can be used by commercial, procurement and operational teams.
Confidentiality has been built into the platform from the outset. Scope applies guardrails that identify and mask specified confidential information before the relevant contract content is assessed, helping businesses protect sensitive pricing, intellectual property, technical information and negotiated positions.
Scope was created in partnership with local software developers TrackGenesis, which led the platform's technical development while Protea supplied the contracting principles, commercial framework and sector expertise that underpin its assessments.
Beth Towsey, Founder and Managing Director of Protea Consultancy, said:
"Many businesses face complex contractual terms and significant commercial obligations without having a large specialist team in house. Scope brings our contracting principles and practical commercial experience into a structured assessment, helping businesses identify the issues that matter and approach their contracts with greater clarity and confidence."
Businesses should not have to commission an expensive external review simply to understand where contractual risk may sit. Scope provides an accessible, cost-effective first assessment, identifying the obligations, gaps and areas of commercial exposure that deserve attention. By bringing these issues into view at the outset, it helps internal teams focus their time and resources where they will have the greatest value, approach negotiations with greater confidence and avoid paying for a lengthy external review simply to establish the contract's principal risks.
Andrew Towsey, Director of Procurement at Protea Consultancy and co-founder of Scope, said:
"The risk in a contract rarely stays on the page. An unclear obligation can become an unexpected cost, a delivery failure, pressure on margin or a dispute. Scope brings those issues into view while there is still time to question or negotiate."
One-off Scope assessments start from £300 plus VAT, with subscription plans available for organisations that review contracts regularly.
